Evolution - Evolution - 1970 - (Full Album)

 The late ’60s in Spain saw a fascination with soul music — perhaps the upbeat groove of black America was a suitable reaction to the staid ways of Franco’s dictatorship.

Evolution initially arrived in Spain from Germany as beat/soul band Los Vampires, who overtime changed direction, lost members and regrouped at the end of the decade in Barcelona to become the cities hottest soul act.

When the psych-prog boom took off influences such as Santana, Spirit, King Crimson, Traffic and Blood, Sweat & Tears also began to play a crucial part in their sound.

The band originals combined incredible psych-rock dance floor fillers – notably ‘Dr. Vazquez’ – which were packed with fuzz guitar, Hammond and Det Ferring’s impressive vocals, with more introspective rock. (It comes as no surprise that recently the Mod scene has picked up on Evolution’s dazzling interpretation of Spirit’s ‘Fresh Garbage’{included on this album}).

Wah-Wah's splendid digipak re-issue of the 1970 Evolution album is packaged in the peculiar 'carrier bag' styled sleeve of the original 12" sleeve (including cardboard handgrip). Offering The Listener Loads Of Hammond Grooves And Psychedelic Fuzz Guitar.

Their Rare LP From 1970 Is Another One Of The Most Sought-After Records From Spain's Rock Heritage.  James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. "Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live in Maui" comprises all of the existing 16mm color film shot of the first of two performances on July 30, 1970 at Haleakala Crater, Hawai. There are a few sections that utilize a still frame where original footage wasn't available.

Odyssey - Setting forth (full album) 1969

 Odyssey's "Setting Forth" is one of the ten rarest psychedelic heavy rock albums in the United States. Odyssey's only LP was originally just a demo/private pressing of about 100 copies. Once upon a time, when the music business was more music than business (but only just), there was a lean, mean, and super tight band who created a quintessential dose of New York sixties psychedelia: one perfect album, loaded with heavy swirling organ, ferocious fuzz guitar, and powerhouse vocals: that band was Odyssey. Their album, “Setting Forth,” did not take them from support slots in their native Long Island to the major label heights of other local bands like Vanilla Fudge. But it is that same Odyssey “Setting Forth” album that is one of the greatest guitar-heavy psych records in the world, and as a result one of the most sought after (and expensive) psychedelic rarities ever pressed on wax. This is truly one of the pinnacles of underground psychedelic music, recorded in 1969, released in an edition of fewer than 100 copies, and impossible to find as it only came in a plain white cardboard sleeve; an incredible, musically accomplished, hard rocking album of originals that jumps right out of the speakers and grabs you, from it’s opening In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida-esque riffs right to the grooving end. Absolutely to listen!

HAYMARKET SQUARE Magic Lantern (Rare 1968)

 

Here we have a copy of the incredibly scarce LP by US Psych Band Haymarket Square called Magic Lantern, released Privately through Chaparral (CRM 201) a pressing label used by Laddies Recording Studios (named after proprietor and engineer Laddie Oleson). An estimated 100 copies were released it was mainly composed for a museums sound and light show. Therefore features long instrumental passages of Fuzzy Psych (and lots of drums). A copy sold in 2015 for £3169. When the Real Things broke up, they decided to form a new band, and placed ads in several newspapers, seeking additional musicians. On the strength of their auditions, Marc Swenson became the lead guitarist, and Gloria Lambert the lead vocalist. Homa switched from guitar to bass. The new band named themselves Haymarket Square, a reference to the 1886 Haymarket Square Riot. They soon became popular and played at various venues in the Chicago area. They performed on the same bill as more well-known groups, including the Yardbirds and Cream. In 1968, they played as part of the Barnum and Bailey Light Circus, a sound and light show that was produced by two college professors, and which was performed at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art.. Later that year, the band's only album, Magic Lantern, was released by Chaparral Records. After the recording of Magic Lantern, Homa left the band, and was replaced by bassist Ken Pitlik. Robert Miller joined the band and played rhythm guitar. This reconfigured lineup stayed together until Haymarket Square disbanded in 1974.
