Thirsty Moon is a German Krautrock band. The band was founded in the early 1970s in Bremen and plays progressive rock with strong jazz influences. Band members were the brothers Jürgen and Norbert Drogies, Michael Kobs, Harald Konietzko, Erwin Noack,
Willi Pape and Siegfried Pisalla, although this line-up changed in the
late 1970s. The band's first two albums received critical acclaim and
are considered Krautrock classics.[1]
In 2007, Jürgen Drogies released the album Dreamcatcher and gave his new band the name Back to the Moon.

This relatively short-lived (from 1972-77) obscure German symphonic/kraut band consisted of three members from a band called Paradise on Earth, these were; keyboardist Eckhardt Franke, drummer Michael Brandes and bassist Gunter Armbrecht, when guitarist Friedrich Kruger joined, the band name was changed to ERLKOENIG (taken after the German poem of the same name, written by the famous poet Goethe), this line-up lasted until the band disbanded in 1977. ERLKOENIG played a very interesting and unique blend of krautrock and symphonic rock, it would probably be fair to characterise them as a symphonic prog band with evident krautrock leanings. The music of ERLKOENIG is dominated by the organ skilfully and inventively played by the main composer Eckhardt Franke, much fiercer than your average symphonic prog band. The music is full of intensity, beauty, virtuosity and fairy-tale like imagery. Their output is largely instrumental but when vocals are added it has a very unique and interesting sound as to serve the mysterious nature of the music, and also a very charming German accented pronunciation.
Unfortunately ERLKOENIG only released one self-titled LP during their almost 6-year long career; it was released in January 1973. It was originally privately pressed in only 1000 copies, mainly to be sold at concerts. In 2001 it was released on CD on the Garden of Delights label with 4 bonus tracks. And in 2004 it was reissued on vinyl on the Amber Soundroom label, limited to only 500 copies, with an alternative order of tracks and one bonus track.
It’s very unfortunate that ERLKOENIG arn’t more known than they are, for the average prog listener there should be a lot of interesting music to seek out. If you like organ-driven music with lot of dynamics and intensity, do yourself a favour, track down a copy of ERLKOENIG’s self–titled debut.

Playing a melodious synthesis of symphonic hard rock, that has occasionally been compared to Pink Floyd, Hanover Krautrockers Jane can trace their origins back to the late sixties psychedelic band The J.P.s (Justice of Peace). Releasing a single "Save Me"/"War" in 1968, the band featured future Jane members Peter Panka on vocals, Klaus Hess on bass and Werner Nadolny on saxophone. By late 1970 The J.P.s had dissolved and regrouped as Jane with Panka on vocals and drums, Hess switching to guitar and Nadolny assuming keyboards. Charly Maucher joined on bass and power vocalist Bernd Pulst completed the band in April 1971 and their first LP Together was released on the Hamburg-based record labelBrain Records
in the spring of 1972. Singing in broken English, which helped create
passionate effects, a heavy expressive bluesy sound emerged with
blistering Les Paul solos and slabs of Hammond organ backdrops, that was
consolidated by Peter Panka's almost hypnotic oscillating drum beats,
that would characterize Jane's music for almost 40 years. Together
was warmly received by the German music press including Sounds
magazine, who had declared Pulst its vocalist of the year for 1971.

The first Mythos LP was released in 1972, on the legendary 'Krautrock' label Ohr. On 'Mythos' the band realized a mixture of art rock and psychedelic with oriental influences in lengthy pieces. Stephan Kaske played the melody from Händel's 'Fireworks Music' on the flute in a rockmeets-classic version. 'Oriental Journey-Hero's Death' creates a psychedelic mood with sitar and mellotron sounds. 'Encyclopedia Terrae', which takes up the entire second side, is the highlight of the album and features powerful drums meeting up with peaceful sequences, sounds of warfare such as detonating bombs and marching soldiers meeting up with hard guitar riffs. This debut album instantly became a classic in the Krautrock-genre.

A ravishing album, very folk, acoustic and dreamy with delicate, fragile female voices. This is their best and unique highly recommended effort they made. Celestial and floating kraut / folk music whose approach can be compared with Broselmaschine, Emtidi and others. "Waren Wir" is a magic, majectic, melancholic composition, very acoustic with desperate voices, lyrical passages and colourful "cosmic" improvisations for flute, keyboards and drums (at the end). "Peter" is a pleasant, dancing ballad for acoustic guitar and voices. An eastern flavour is sometimes added by the use of the sitar (in "Strohhalm"). We can also notice a subtle jazzy guitar touch, mainly improvised for long solo interludes. Specials guests as Walter Westrupp, Peter Bursch contribute to make this album an inspired progressive rock item with many acoustic ingredients added in a kind of fusion style. "Traum" can be highly recommended for every prog folk lovers. A very inspired effort that is hard to ignore!
This, in my opinion, underrated German progressive rock band has its roots in '63 when the brothers Joachim and Christian Grumbkow founded the rock-band The BEATKIDS and played covers from The BEATLES, The ROLLING STONES and The SHADOWS. In november '70 the brothers GRUMBKOW presented the name HÖLDERLIN (derived from a German romantic poet) after they had played with a sery of musicians mainly folk-rock covers (especially TRAFFIC), all layered with long instrumental improvisations. Then HÖLDERLIN got an invitation from a record company, this after only three months of their existence! The debut-album "Hölderlin's Traum" was released in '72 with a nine-piece line up, including female vocals and instruments like the Mellotron, Grand piano, violin, cello, sitar, tablas and flute. Their sound is a progressive blend of rock, jazz and folk. It sold 5000 copies and the LP is still a collector's item. But then the troubles began with their producer Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser (TANGERINE DREAM, KLAUS SCHULZE and WALLENSTEIN). He tried to force the band into a more cosmic approach ('LSD' inspired complained the band) and was not amused with the "more political oriented lyrics" as he analyzed.
It took almost three years with many juridical conflicts to get rid off the contract but eventually HÖLDERLIN won their case. Under the new name HOELDERLIN (in German the pronunciation of "oe" is the same as the "ö" and much easier to write or type) the second eponymous LP was released in 75. The band called their music 'romantic rock', it sounded more jazzy and it contained echoes from KING CRIMSON and GENESIS. HOELDERLIN toured through Scandinavia, Holland, Germany and Switzerland, got good reviews and radio - and tv-airplay. In '76 HOELDERLIN released the album entitled "Clowns and Clouds". The music consists of more complex rock with many theatrical and surrealistic elements. In '77 Christian had a mental breakdown, he could no longer combine the too busy work with the band and his family life (the upbringing of two children). He left and Spanish guitar player Pablo Weeber joined HOELDERLIN. In '77 they released the album "Rare Birds", a year later followed by the 2-LP "Hoelderlin Live Traumstadt". Soon after the unstable personality of Pablo led to his dismiss. "Traumstadt" got very good reviews, it even reached the German charts. Further releases were "New Faces" ('79) and "Fata Morgana" ('81), including new drummer Eduard Schicke, know from the progrock trio SCHICKE, FUHRS, FRÖHLING. These albums have a more accessible melodic rock approach.

"Only three years ago the group FRUMPY was founded, however it belongs already to pop's history today. Inga Rumpf, Carsten Bohn, Jean-Jacques Kravetz and Karl Heinz Schoff - all former members of the well known folk-formation "City Preachers" from Hamburg - founded FRUMPY, later on lead guitar player Rainer Baumann joined them.
A milestone to success was their today almost legendary tour of 50 concerts with Spooky Tooth. More big events on their road to success were among others appearances in the "Olympia", Paris and in the "Speakeasy", London. Countless are their number of concerts in Germany. Always they swept along the audience with their music and charisma. In small cities as well on festivals. Most of the success is due to Inga with her inimitable smoky and sooty rasp-voice. She is called deservedly "Queen Of Rock".1. How the Gipsy Was Born 00:00

Brainticket was founded by Joel Vandroogenbroeck (born Brussels, 25 August 1938; died 23 December 2019),[2][3] a Belgian who grew up studying classical piano before switching to jazz. He received the Art Tatum prize as “youngest jazz pianist” at the age of fifteen, and toured around Europe and Africa including performances with the Quincy Jones Orchestra at the World Exhibition in Brussels and the RAI symphony of Rome. By the late 1960s, Vandroogenbroeck was still playing jazz but he found new inspiration in German krautrock artists Amon Düül II, Can and Tangerine Dream. Under the influence of these groups, Joel and English guitarist
Ron Bryer (who had previously played with The Loose Ends, The Carl
Douglas Set and The Big Wheel before meeting Vandroogenbroeck in Berry
Window & The Movements) recruited drummer Wolfgang Paap and formed the trio that would become Brainticket.[1]
