Simon Dupree and The Big Sound - Kites (Lyrics)

Simon Dupree and the Big Sound were a British psychedelic band formed in 1966 by brothers Derek (vocals), Phil (vocals, saxophone, trumpet), and Ray Shulman (guitar, violin, trumpet, vocals);[1] also known for their later prog rock band, Gentle Giant

"Kites" is a ballad written by Hal Hackady and Lee Pockriss. It was first recorded by the Rooftop Singers as their last single in 1967.[1]

The song then became a hit for Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, a group of the Shulman brothers, who went on to form the progressive rock band Gentle Giant. Their first releases had not been successful and they looked to their manager, John King, for inspiration. He suggested "Kites", which he had obtained from Robbins' Music. It was not their preferred style but King insisted.[2]

The song was recorded at Abbey Road using unconventional instruments such as a wind machine and included a spoken interlude in Chinese, composed of "sweet nothings"[3] and performed[4] by the actress Jacqui Chan,[5] a friend of the band. The spoken words are in Mandarin, a language which she did not usually speak. One translation is: "I love you, I love you, My love is very strong. It flies high like a kite before the wind, Please do not let go of the string."

The single reached number 8 in the UK Singles chart in late 1967[6] and, as an example of the early psychedelic rock style, it has since appeared on many compilations, especially those themed around psychedelia.[7] Music historian Paul Stump called it "one of the first pop singles to employ a bank of keyboards simultaneously for melodic and colouristic purposes".[8] The specific keyboards featured are organ, mellotron, piano, and vibraphone.[8][9]

'Kites' is a very beautiful and romantic song that was a hit for Simon Dupree and The Big Sound in the UK in the 60's. The single reached number 8 in late 1967 and as an exemplar of the early psychedelic rock style it has since appeared on many compilations, especially those themed around psychedelia.

Lyrics

I will fly a yellow paper sun in your skyWhen the wind is high, when the wind is highI will float a silken silver moon near your windowIf your night is dark, if your night is dark
In letters of gold on a snow white kiteI will write "I love you"And send it soaring high above youFor all to read
I will scatter rice paper stars in your heavenIf there are no stars, if there are no starsAll of these and seven wonders more will I findWhen the wind is high, when the wind is high
In letters of gold on a snow white kiteI will write "I love you"And send it soaring high above youFor all to read
In letters of gold on a snow white kiteI will write "I love you"And send it soaring high above youFor all to read

Paul Desmond - A Taste Of Honey (and lyrics)

Paul Desmond (born Paul Emil Breitenfeld; November 25, 1924 – May 30, 1977) was an American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, best known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and for composing that group's biggest hit, "Take Five". He was one of the most popular musicians to come out of the cool jazz scene.

In addition to his work with Brubeck, he led several groups and collaborated with Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, and Ed Bickert. After years of chain smoking and poor health, Desmond succumbed to lung cancer in 1977 after a tour with Brubeck.

Paul Desmond recorded a version in 1964 on his album Glad to Be Unhappy (RCA LPM 3407)

"A Taste of Honey" is a pop standard written by Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow. It was originally an instrumental track (or recurring theme) written for the 1960 Broadway version of the 1958 British play A Taste of Honey (which was also made into the film of the same name in 1961). Both the original and a later recording by Herb Alpert in 1965 earned the song four Grammy Awards. A vocal version of the song—first recorded by Billy Dee Williams (and released in 1961 on the Prestige label), and then recorded very successfully by Lenny Welch in the summer of 1962—was also recorded by the Beatles for their first album in 1963. Barbra Streisand performed the song as part of her cabaret act during 1962, and recorded it in January 1963 for her debut album The Barbra Streisand Album, on Columbia, which won a Grammy for Album of the Year (1963). The publishing rights are owned 100% by Songfest Music Corporation, a subsidiary of GPS Music Corporation.[citation needed]

Winds may blow over the icy sea
I'll take with me the warmth of thee
A taste of honey
A taste much sweeter than wine
I will return
I'll return
I'll come back for the honey and you
I'll leave behind my heart to wear
And may it e'er remind you of
A taste of honey
A taste much sweeter than wine
I will return
I'll return
I'll come back for the honey and you
He ne'er came back to his love so fair
And so she died dreaming of his kiss
His kiss of honey
A taste more bitter than wine
I will return
I will return
I'll come back for the honey and you
I'll come back for the honey and you

Jose Feliciano - Rain

José Monserrate Feliciano García (born September 10, 1945), better known simply as José Feliciano Spanish pronunciation: [xoˈse feliˈsjano], is a Puerto Rican musician, singer and composer, best known for many international hits, including his rendition of the Doors' "Light My Fire" and the best-selling Christmas single, "Feliz Navidad." His music is known for its fusion of styles—Latin, jazz, blues, soul and rock—created primarily with his unique, signature acoustic guitar sound. His oftentimes mellow easy listening influences are easily recognizable in many songs heard around the world.[1]

In the United States, Feliciano first received widespread popularity in the 1960s, particularly after his 1968 album Feliciano! reached number two on the music charts.[1] Thus far, he has released over fifty albums, worldwide, in both English and Spanish.

Listen to the pouring rain Listen to it pour, And with every drop of rain You know I love you more Let it rain all night long, Let my love for you go strong, As long as we're together Who cares about the weather? Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall, And with every drop of rain, I can hear you call, Call my name right out loud, I can here above the clouds And I'm here among the puddles, You and I together huddle. Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall. It's raining, It's pouring, The old man is snoring, Went to bad And bumped his head, He couldn't get up in the morning, Listen to the falling rain, listen to the rain

The Rolling Stones - She's A Rainbow (Official Lyric Video)

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Active for almost six decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era. Diverging from the pop rock of the early 1960s, the Rolling Stones pioneered the gritty, heavier-driven sound that came to define hard rock.[1] Their first stable line-up comprised vocalist Mick Jagger, multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Bill Wyman, and drummer Charlie Watts. During their formative years Jones was the primary leader: he assembled the band, named it, and drove their sound and image. After Andrew Loog Oldham became the group's manager in 1963, he encouraged them to write their own songs. Jagger and Richards became the primary creative force behind the band, alienating Jones, who developed a drug addiction that interfered with his ability to contribute meaningfully.

Let It Bleed (50th Anniversary Edition) is out now: https://abkco.lnk.to/LetItBleed “She’s A Rainbow” by The Rolling Stones Composers: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards Lyrics: She comes in colours ev’ry where She combs her hair. She’s like a rainbow, coming, colors in the air. Oh ev’ry where, she comes in colors. Wanh, wanh, la la la. She comes in colors ev’ry where She combs her hair. She’s like a rainbow, coming, colors in the air. Oh ev’ry where, she comes in colors. Wanh, wanh, la la la. Have you seen her dressed in blue? See the sky in front of you; and her face is like a sail, speck of white so fair and pale. Have you seen the lady fairer? She comes in colors ev’ry where; she combs her hair. She’s like a rainbow, coming, colors in the air. Oh, ev’ry where she comes in colors. Ooh, wah wah la la la. Have you seen her all in gold like a queen in days of old? She shoots colors all around like a sunset going down. Have you seen the lady fairer? She comes in colors ev’ry where; she combs her hair. She’s like a rainbow, coming, colors in the air. Oh, ev’ry where she comes in colors. Ooh, wah wah la la la. Ooh, wah wah la la la. She’s like a rainbow, coming, colors in the air. Ohio Express- Yummy Yummy Yummy

The Ohio Express is an American bubblegum pop band, formed in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1967.[1] Though marketed as a band, it would be more accurate to say that the name "Ohio Express" served as a brand name used by Jerry Kasenetz's and Jeffry Katz's Super K Productions to release the music of a number of different musicians and acts. The best known songs of Ohio Express (including their best scoring single, "Yummy Yummy Yummy") were actually the work of an assemblage of studio musicians working out of New York, including singer/songwriter Joey Levine.
