TRIPSICHORD - TRIPSICHORD (1971)

Tripsichord Music Box was an American psychedelic rock group of the late 1960s / early 1970s. They were managed and produced by Matthew Katz, who also worked with Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape and It's A Beautiful Day. They evolved out of The Ban (1965-1966), then The Now (9) (1967), and then became Tripsichord Music Box (1968) when connecting with Katz and Marcus Uzilevsky (a.k.a. Rusty Evans) in San Francisco, California. Ultimately the band dropped the "Music Box." They released one self-titled album (along with a couple of singles) on the San Francisco Sound label, which received major-label release on Janus Records the following year. (Discogs)

The Groovy Nobody - Solarium [Full Album]

Absorb the ultraviolet rays you dance within, bask in the vibrancy of an unusual dawning light.
Manifest your own internal solarium, become an illuminant projection of the metaphysical.

Embark upon your voyage to distant lands and seek guidance within the sun.
Break your cycle from the endless stream as it snakes infinitely like an ouroboros.”

Rich with sonic character manifested from a swirling soundscape of punchy hypnotic drum grooves, and enchanting electric guitars, a thematically sun-soaked record emitting a surrealistic psychoactive glow reminiscent of an infinite summer day. Spanning from contemporary neo-psych sensibilities, traversing through continually winding instrumental passages ladened with murmurs of flute and acoustic guitars, and into some all new ventures of far out krautrock inspired territories. Culminated in a cohesively immersive experience, a true spectacle of sound, painted in both strokes of organic textures and warm saturation.

An album best suited in portraying the metaphorical embodiment of a newly arising era, Solarium.

“This album is very meaningful to me, lots of these songs were formulated way back in early 2019, during an immense outpouring of creative ideas which had just about all swiftly found themselves lying dormant and awaiting the day they would inevitably become destined for ears other than my own. Finally releasing these songs brings me great joy, and I hope you can get lost in the adventure of listening along.”

The group was named for the 1950s science fiction film Plan 9 from Outer Space.[2][3]

The Calgary Herald wrote, in 1989, "Its music has that spirited, no-holds-barred feel of rock from the '60s while managing to not sound dated."[4]

The band was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2017, alongside Throwing Muses and several other acts.

Phafner - Overdrive - 1971 - (Full Album)

This band formed in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1969 playing a form of hard-edged, drug-induced rock'n'roll. Their album was recorded in a basement studio in 1972 and just 50 copies were pressed on the Dragon label.

In 1973 they recorded some rough cuts for what was to be their second album, Meathook. Sadly the band fell apart before the album was completed but two of these previously unreleased tracks, Breakdown and Cat Black Claw, can now be heard on the Animus Ochlus retrospective album - which is not a straightforward reissue of Overdrive, as it omits some of the original material. Overdrive features some pretty fine and varied guitar work.

The opening cut, Plea From The Soul, has lots of fuzz and mouth harp; Uncle Jerry and Rock n Roll Man feature breckneck guitar work whilst by contrast Whiskey Took My Woman is slower and bluesy.

Roky Erickson & The Black Angels - Night of the Vampire (2008)

Roger Kynard "Roky" Erickson (July 15, 1947 – May 31, 2019) was an American musician and singer-songwriter. He was a founding member and the leader of the 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre.[1]

Erickson was born in Dallas, Texas, to Roger and Evelyn Erickson, and had four younger brothers. The nickname "Roky," a contraction of his first and middle names, was given to him by his parents.[2] His father, an architect and civil engineer, was stern and disapproving of Erickson's countercultural attitudes, once forcibly cutting his son's hair rather than allow him to grow it out Beatles-style. His mother was an amateur artist and opera singer, and encouraged Erickson's musical talent by taking guitar lessons herself so she could teach him.[3]

An estimated 100 copies were released it was mainly composed for a museums sound and light show. Therefore features long instrumental passages of Fuzzy Psych (and lots of drums). A copy sold in 2015 for £3169. Why not subscribe as I post rarities regularly Side 1 Elevator 0:00 Train Kept A-Rollin' 7:04 Ahimsa 14:25 Side 2 Amapola 22:38 Funeral 33:22 In 1967, drummer John Kowalski and guitarist Bob Homa were in a Chicago-area garage band called the Real Things. When the Real Things broke up, they decided to form a new band, and placed ads in several newspapers, seeking additional musicians. On the strength of their auditions, Marc Swenson became the lead guitarist, and Gloria Lambert the lead vocalist. Homa switched from guitar to bass. The new band named themselves Haymarket Square, a reference to the 1886 Haymarket Square Riot. They soon became popular and played at various venues in the Chicago area. They performed on the same bill as more well-known groups, including the Yardbirds and Cream. In 1968, they played as part of the Barnum and Bailey Light Circus, a sound and light show that was produced by two college professors, and which was performed at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art.. Later that year, the band's only album, Magic Lantern, was released by Chaparral Records. After the recording of Magic Lantern, Homa left the band, and was replaced by bassist Ken Pitlik. Robert Miller joined the band and played rhythm guitar. This reconfigured lineup stayed together until Haymarket Square disbanded in 1974.
