Mark Freuder Knopfler OBE (born 12 August 1949) is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits from 1977 to 1988, and from 1990 to 1995. Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in Blyth, near Newcastle, England. After graduating from the University of Leeds and working for three years as a college lecturer, Knopfler co-founded Dire Straits with his younger brother, David Knopfler. The band recorded six albums, including Brothers in Arms (1985), one of the best-selling albums in history. After they disbanded in 1995, Knopfler began a solo career, and has produced nine solo albums.[1] He has composed and produced film scores for nine films, including Local Hero (1983), Cal (1984), The Princess Bride (1987), Wag the Dog (1997) and Altamira (2016).[2] He has produced albums for Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, and Randy Newman.

On Silvertown Way, the cranes stand high Quiet and gray against the still of the sky They won't quit and lay down though the action has died They watch the new game in town on the Blackwall side From the poisonous drains a vision appears New circle of cranes, a new reason to be here A big silver dome rising up into the dawn Above the church and the homes were all the silver is gone If I'd a bucket of gold, what would I do I'd leave the story untold Silvertown blues Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown A silver dawn steals over the docks A truck with no wheels up on cinder blocks Men with no dreams around a fire in a drum Scrap metal schemes are rusted over and done If I'd a bucket of gold, silver would do I'd leave the story untold Silvertown blues Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown When you're standing on thin and dangerous ice You can knock and walk in for citizens' advice They'll tell you the where you can turn, where you can go There's nothing they can tell me I don't already know If I'd a bucket of gold, silver would do I'd leave the story untold Silvertown blues Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown From the Caning Town train I see a billboard high There's a big silver plane raising up into the sky And I can make out the words 'seven flights every day' Says six of those birds are bound for JFK If I'd a bucket of gold, silver would do I'd leave the story untold Silvertown blues And I'm going down in Silvertown Down in Silvertown Going down Silvertown Down in Silvertown

Thin Lizzy & Gary Moore - Don't Believe A Word - Live at BBC TV, 1979

Thin Lizzy are a hard rock band formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Two of the founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist and lead vocalist Phil Lynott, met while still in school. Lynott led the group throughout their recording career of twelve studio albums, writing most of the material. The singles "Whiskey in the Jar" (a traditional Irish ballad), "Jailbreak", and "The Boys Are Back in Town" were major international hits. After Lynott's death in 1986, various incarnations of the band emerged over the years based initially around guitarists Scott Gorham and John Sykes, though Sykes left the band in 2009. Gorham later continued with a new line-up including Downey.

Robert William Gary Moore (4 April 1952 – 6 February 2011) was a Northern Irish musician. Over the course of his career he played in various groups and performed a range of music including blues, blues rock, hard rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion.

Influenced by Peter Green and Eric Clapton, Moore began his career in the late 1960s when he joined Skid Row, with whom he released two albums. After Moore left the group he joined Thin Lizzy, featuring his former Skid Row bandmate and frequent collaborator Phil Lynott. Moore began his solo career in the 1970s and achieved major success with 1979's "Parisienne Walkways", which is considered his signature song. During the 1980s, Moore transitioned into playing hard rock and heavy metal with varying degrees of international success. In 1990, he returned to his roots with Still Got the Blues, which became the most successful album of his career. Moore continued to release new music throughout his later career, collaborating with other artists from time to time. Moore died on 6 February 2011 from a heart attack while on holiday in Spain.

Telly Savalas - If

Aristotelis "Telly" Savalas (January 21, 1922 – January 22, 1994) was an American actor and singer whose career spanned four decades. Noted for his bald head and deep, resonant voice,[1][2][3][4] he is perhaps best known for portraying Lt. Theo Kojak on the crime drama series Kojak (1973–1978) and James Bond archvillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

Savalas' other roles include Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), Battle of the Bulge (1965), The Dirty Dozen (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Horror Express (1972), Lisa and the Devil (1974) and Escape to Athena (1979). For Birdman of Alcatraz, he was nominated for the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

As a singer, Savalas released a cover of the Bread song "If", which became a UK No. 1 single in 1975.[5] The song also peaked at number 12 in Australia.[6]

"If" is a song written by American singer-songwriter David Gates in 1971. Originally popularized by his group Bread, "If" charted at No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 when released as a single in 1971 and No. 6 in Canada. It also spent three weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Easy Listening chart,[1] and one week at the top of the Canadian AC chart.[2]

In the U.S., Bread's tune was the shortest song title to become a top ten hit until 1993, when Prince hit No. 7 with "7", and Britney Spears reached No. 1 with "3" in 2009.

If a picture paints a thousand wordsThen why can't I paint you?The words will never show the you I've come to knowIf a face could launch a thousand shipsThen where am I to go? There's no one home but youYou're all that's left me toAnd when my love for life is running dryYou come and pour yourself on me
If a man could be two places at one timeI'd be with youTomorrow and today, beside you all the wayIf the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to dieI'd spend the end with youAnd when the world was throughThen one by one the stars would all go outThen you and I would simply fly away

Roger Hodgson- Only Because of You (Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra at Jazzopen Schlossplatz.)

Charles Roger Pomfret Hodgson (born 21 March 1950) is an English musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the former co-frontman and founding member of progressive rock band Supertramp.[2][3][4] Hodgson composed and sang the majority of the band’s hits such as "Dreamer", "Give a Little Bit", "Take the Long Way Home", "The Logical Song", "It's Raining Again", and "Breakfast in America".

Hodgson left Supertramp in 1983 and moved his family away from the Los Angeles music scene to live a simpler lifestyle close to nature and be home with his children as they were growing up.[5] Hodgson returned to touring in 2001. He often writes about spiritual and philosophical topics, and his lyrics have been described as personal and meaningful.[6]

This performance is from a July 2013 concert in Germany with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra at Jazzopen Schlossplatz.
This glorious song, Only Because of You, is from Roger Hodgson’s 1984 album, In the Eye of the Storm. Roger's hauntingly exquisite lyrics and melody of this beauty touch the soul deeply and often brings audience members to tears. Seeing Roger perform with an orchestra is mesmerizing.

Chris Rea - As Long As I Have Your Love

Christopher Anton Rea (/ˈriːə/ REE-ə; born 4 March 1951)[1] is an English rock and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, he is of Italian and Irish descent. He is known for his distinctive, husky singing and slide guitar playing,[2][3] with the Guinness Rockopedia describing him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".[4] After learning to play the guitar relatively late, a short burst of local band activity led to his launching a solo career in 1978.

"The Blue Cafe" is the fourteenth studio album by Chris Rea, released in 1998. A confident and consistent album, The Blue Cafe combines Rea's atmospheric songwriting with larger doses of his slide guitar playing than usual. An overlooked talent of his, it underlies this collection of contemporary sounding songs rooted in dance beats and blues. Listen to the pouring rain Listen to it pour, And with every drop of rain You know I love you more Let it rain all night long, Let my love for you go strong, As long as we're together Who cares about the weather? Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall, And with every drop of rain, I can hear you call, Call my name right out loud, I can here above the clouds And I'm here among the puddles, You and I together huddle. Listen to the falling rain, Listen to it fall. It's raining, It's pouring, The old man is snoring, Went to bad And bumped his head, He couldn't get up in the morning, Listen to the falling rain, listen to the rain
